How To Get To Magma Wyrm Makar Complete Route And Boss Preparation Guide

Navigating through the Lands Between often presents players with multiple paths to reach major regions, and bypassing the Grand Lift of Dectus is one of the most popular alternatives. To reach the Altus Plateau without gathering medallion halves, Tarnished travelers must scale the treacherous Ruin-Strewn Precipice and confront Magma Wyrm Makar. Preparing for both the vertical trek and the fiery boss encounter ensures a smooth transition into the next phase of your journey.
Navigating the Ravine to the Ruin-Strewn Precipice
The journey to Magma Wyrm Makar begins at the northernmost point of Liurnia’s central lake, where a deep ravine cuts into the surrounding cliffs. Traveling up this watery canyon leads directly to the Ravine-Veiled Village Site of Grace, which serves as the entry point to the climb. From here, players must ascend a complex series of wooden ladders, stone staircases, and mine shafts filled with miners and dangerous harpies.
As you fight or run past enemies on the wooden platforms, keep an eye out for shortcuts like drop-down ladders that ease returning trips. The route culminates at the Ruin-Strewn Precipice Overlook Site of Grace, located directly outside the fog gate. Resting here allows you to finalize your equipment loadout and summon available support before stepping into the boss arena.
Essential Preparation for Fire and Physical Damage
Magma Wyrm Makar inflicts heavy fire damage through sweeping magma attacks and sword strikes coated in flames. To mitigate this incoming damage, equip high fire-resistant armor and consume items like Fireproof Dried Liver. Equipping the Flamedrake Talisman significantly boosts your fire resistance, giving you a wider safety margin during intense moments.
Because Makar moves erratically and covers large portions of the floor in burning lava, mobility and stamina management are critical. You can also summon NPC allies such as Great Horned Tragoth near the fog wall to draw aggression away from your character. Utilizing heavy strike weapons or bleed builds will further enhance your ability to stagger or quickly drain the boss's health pool.
Mastering the Two-Phase Boss Battle
During the first phase, Magma Wyrm Makar remains low to the ground and frequently spews magma while charging forward. Stay patient and attack its head or sides after it finishes a magma-running attack. Dodging into physical sword swipes rather than away allows you to remain within striking distance while avoiding damage.
At half health, Makar enters its second phase by standing upright on its hind legs and empowering its greatsword with fire. Positioning yourself beneath or directly behind its hind legs provides a safer angle to land heavy attacks while avoiding frontal slams. Using the central pillar in the arena as temporary cover offers a safe opportunity to heal or recover FP before resuming your assault.
